GOP Senator Scott says border security deal with Democrats 'dead on arrival'

Republican Sen. Tim Scott says the reaching a deal with Democrats on border security is now "dead on arrival."

The South Carolina lawmaker made the comment Wednesday night on Fox News, following Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell reportedly telling member of his conference any agreement with Democrats on border security tied to Ukraine aid could undermine former President Trump's 2024 campaign, which is heavily focused on the crisis at the southern border."

"Number one, it's dead on arrival," said Scott, who after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race has back the front-running Trump. "Number two, Democrats prefer the issue than any solution," Scott said on Fox News on Wednesday evening. "Never forget, any issue impacting marginal people they go with problem not with solution."

Still, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., who is a lead GOP negotiator a potential border deal, said Thursday that the negotiations are ongoing.
