LGBTQ supporters gathered on the Louisiana Capitol steps Wednesday to protest gender identification legislation they say is stoking an atmosphere of hate and danger.
"It's dangerous to be trans in America," said Gabby D., 18, of Metairie, who was joined by his mom Tina D. at the rally, which drew about 50 supporters. "It's scary and so much of it targets kids."
As in other states, the national debate over gender identity will be among the marquee culture war issues to be debated in the Louisiana Legislature during its two-month Regular Session that began Monday.
Among the measures to be debated:
